LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) – With regards to highschool basketball historical past within the Lansing space, Earvin “Magic” Johnson is the primary individual many take into consideration.

Sam Vincent is not too far behind on that listing of Lansing basketball legends.

It is a part of the rationale Vincent would be the Grand Marshal throughout Michigan State’s homecoming celebration this weekend.

A profession at Lansing Japanese Excessive Faculty, which featured him being the primary recipient of the state of Michigan’s Mr. Basketball award in 1981, led Vincent to play for Jud Heathcote at Michigan State.

After graduating from MSU in 1985, Vincent was drafted by the Boston Celtics and performed within the NBA for seven years.

Vincent then transitioned to teaching and it led him all around the world. The Lansing native coached in South Africa, Europe, China, Greece, the Netherlands and Nigeria, the place he led the Nigerian girls’s basketball staff to victory within the 2004 Summer season Olympics.  

Vincent is presently residing in Orlando, Florida, and is the top basketball coach at Beacon School, which is a college for youths recognized with studying variations.
