Mike Amesbury avenue incident ‘matter for police’, says cupboard minister

A video showing to indicate an altercation involving Labour MP Mike Amesbury is “a matter for the police”, a cupboard minister has stated.

Mr Amesbury stated he would “co-operate with any inquiries”, after footage circulated on-line which appeared to indicate him berating a person who was mendacity on the street earlier than a bystander pushed him away.

Cheshire Police confirmed officers had been referred to as to stories of an assault in Frodsham, close to Runcorn, at 2.48am and “inquiries are ongoing”.

Labour MP Mike Amesbury concerned in ‘incident’ on the street

On Saturday, Mr Amesbury, 55, stated that on the night time earlier than he was “involved in an incident that took place after I felt threatened on the street following an evening out with friends”.

His assertion continued: “This morning, I contacted Cheshire Police myself to report what occurred through the incident.

“I will not be making further public comment but will, of course, co-operate with any inquiries if required by Cheshire Police.

“I stay totally dedicated to working exhausting for the folks of Runcorn and Helsby, and am decided to stay an open and accessible MP for our neighborhood.”

Earlier on Friday, Mr Amesbury posted on social media about attending a gathering with native residents about policing and neighborhood security.

In July final 12 months, a 56-year-old man was convicted of stalking the MP at his constituency workplace in Frodsham, the place prosecutors stated he was seen staring by way of the glass and asking guards about their stage of safety.

Cheshire Police stated: “At 2.48am on October 26, police were called to reports of an assault in Frodsham.

“A caller reported he had been assaulted by a person in Primary Avenue. Inquiries are ongoing.”
