Michigan receives 9 million in funding for rail infrastructure improvement

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Michigan will obtain $119 million in federal funding to enhance the states railroad infrastructure, U.S. Sen. Gary Peters introduced Tuesday.

The funding, from the Federal Rail Administration’s (FRA) Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Security Enhancements (CRISI) Program, will help 5 main industrial and passenger initiatives throughout the state.

This system invests in initiatives that enhance the protection and effectivity of railroad infrastructure and help financial improvement in communities throughout the nation.

“Michigan communities and businesses depend on rail infrastructure for safe and efficient transportation of essential goods across the state, as well as to regional and global partners,” stated Sen. Peters. “These 5 initiatives will strengthen our railways and broaden delivery capability whereas creating jobs and spurring financial development.”

Detroit RECHARGED – Realizing Environmental Adjustments Occurring Round Railroads Producing Equitable Improvement: The Michigan Division of Transportation will obtain $67,440,000 to enhance and broaden the capability of the Livernois Intermodal Facility by putting in 17,200 toes of recent rail monitor.
