Eastside Compost celebrates new murals

Eastside Compost celebrates new murals

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Turning an eyesore right into a murals. That’s what one Mid-Michigan “waste company” did to assist elevate a Lansing neighborhood. 

Eastside Compost celebrated new murals at their headquarters by an area artist Sunday afternoon. 

Jill Dombrowski, Lansing resident and artist says she wished to create one thing distinctive for the neighborhood. 

“It wasn’t really adding much to the landscape, and so I thought,” said Dombrowski. “You know, that could really use a little sprucing up.” 

The mural was painted on a compost container. She says it took her almost a month to work on her sketch. 

“I wished it to be one thing that folks might take pleasure in and take pleasure in, and one thing they stay up for see on their stroll round,” stated Dombrowski.

Mike Dombrowski, occasion organizer and proprietor of Eastside Compost says he selected his spouse Jill resulting from her different work in the neighborhood, and since he loves her artwork type. 

“We thought it was important that there was a nice thing to look at,” said Dombrowski. “There’s a lot of traffic, bikers, and walkers, and people driving through the neighborhood. So, now they have something to look at.”    

Jill Dombrowski says she took inspiration for her piece from her daughter, Zora. 

“Her drawings, her art really contains a lot of colorful rainbow elements,” said Dombrowski.  “She’s been drawing rainbows since she could hold a crayon.” 

She says she additionally took inspiration from the homeowners of the corporate. 

“He’s really about sharing food and building community and so I wanted to bring that joyful, playful energy to the mural,” said Dombrowski. “So I had the raccoons cheering some apple cores they found.” 

The mural is situated on the Eastside Compost headquarters 302 Mifflin Ave, Lansing, MI 48912.
