Amnesty Worldwide is demanding the discharge of a college scholar who it claims was “violently arrested” after stripping off, reportedly in protest in opposition to Iran’s strict Islamic costume code.

The human rights organisation has tweeted to say the unidentified girl was demonstrating on the “abusive enforcement of compulsory veiling by security officials at Tehran’s Islamic Azad University”.

College officers issued a press release saying the lady was “under severe stress and suffering from mental disorders, and has been transferred to a medical centre”.
