Tim Westwood: Met detectives hand file to prosecutors to contemplate expenses

Detectives investigating allegations of sexual offences towards DJ Tim Westwood have submitted proof to prosecutors to contemplate expenses.

Claims of non-recent sexual abuse have been made towards the previous BBC Radio 1 DJ in 2022.

The Met Police beforehand stated it was investigating alleged offences in London that occurred between 1982 and 2016, and officers have now submitted a file to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).

Westwood, 66, has beforehand “strongly” denied any wrongdoing.

A CPS spokesperson stated: “We can confirm we received a file from the Metropolitan Police Service regarding allegations of non-recent sexual offences allegedly committed by a man in his 60s.”

No timescale for a call on charging has been given.

Detectives first obtained allegations of non-recent sexual abuse towards Westwood in April 2022, after the BBC aired a documentary revealing claims towards the presenter.

The broadcaster has since been finishing up its personal inquiry into Westwood’s conduct throughout his time on the company. As a part of that evaluation, a 24-hour hotline was arrange for individuals to report data.

In July, the BBC stated the report had been accomplished however there have been authorized processes to undergo earlier than it is able to publish the findings.

After the allegations have been made public, a press release from a consultant of Westwood stated: “Tim Westwood strongly denies all allegations of inappropriate behaviour.

“In a profession that has spanned 40 years, there have by no means been any complaints made towards him formally or unofficially.

“Tim Westwood strongly rejects all allegations of wrongdoing.”

Westwood started his profession on native radio earlier than becoming a member of Capital Radio in London.

He then moved to the BBC and left Radio 1 and Radio 1Xtra after practically 20 years in 2013.

Westwood hosted an everyday Saturday present on Capital Xtra, the place he was known as “The Big Dawg”, earlier than he left the corporate in 2022.
