LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — After taking again the bulk within the Michigan Home of Representatives, Republicans have chosen State Rep. Matt Corridor (R-42) to be Speaker of the Home for the 103rd Legislature.

The incoming 58-52 majority chosen their management Thursday, selecting Corridor, who has led the Republican caucus for the previous two years, to function Speaker of the Home.

“The people of Michigan elected a new House Republican majority to put our state back on the road to success,” says Corridor. “Our focus will be on serving the people of our great state. Michiganders want safe neighborhoods, high-paying careers, effective schools, and secure elections. House Republicans are ready to get to work to make our state the best place to raise a family safely and affordably.”

Corridor has served within the Home of Representatives since 2019 and represents the forty second Home District, which incorporates parts of Kalamazoo and Allegan counties.

Earlier than turning into Home Republican chief in 2023, Corridor held a number of key management positions, together with majority caucus chair (2021-2022), Tax Coverage Committee chair (2021-2022), Joint Choose Committee on the COVID-19 Pandemic chair (2020), and Oversight Committee chair (2019-2020).

Republicans chosen the next legislators to serve on Corridor’s management group:

Speaker Professional Tempore Rachelle Smit

Affiliate Speaker Professional Tempore Jay DeBoyer

Majority Ground Chief Bryan Posthumus

Assistant Majority Ground Chief Brian BeGole

Majority Whip Mike Harris

Chief Deputy Whip Joe Aragona

Caucus Chair Ken Borton

Caucus Vice Chair Nancy Jenkins-Arno

The brand new Home of Representatives will convene for the primary time on Jan. 8, 2025, and for the following two years, Republicans will have the ability to exert vital strain on state management, together with Democratic governor Gretchen Whitmer.

“I’ve spearheaded successful tax cuts to help ease the rising cost of living for the people of Michigan, and I’ve conducted critical oversight of the administration to hold government agencies accountable and ensure Michiganders get value for their hard-earned tax dollars. With our new majority, House Republicans will continue that track record,” says Corridor. We’ll convey stability to state authorities, restore oversight efforts, make life extra inexpensive, hold our communities protected, and ship the worth and companies that taxpayers anticipate.”
