Russia has been strongly criticised by Britain’s international secretary for vetoing a United Nations Safety Council decision urgent for a ceasefire in war-torn Sudan.

David Lammy mentioned the choice to vote in opposition to the measure was “mean, nasty and cynical” and despatched a message to the opponents in Sudan that they may act with impunity.
