Barrett will get identical Congress workplace as his great-grandfather

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Newly-elected congressman Tom Barrett, who efficiently flipped the open seat vacated by U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D-7) on this month’s election will work from the identical workplace that his great-grandfather did throughout his tenure in Congress.

Thursday, Barrett despatched a letter to his fellow Home freshman forward of the workplace lottery, the place new members select numbers to find out the order through which they’ll choose their workplaces for his or her upcoming time period.

Barrett’s grandfather, Louis Rabaut, represented Michigan’s 14th congressional district between 1935 and 1947, and between 1949 and 1961.

“He died in office in 1961, long before I was born, so I never had the opportunity to meet him or ask him about his time in Congress, but his legacy is something my whole family is very proud of,” wrote Barrett within the letter. “In fact, my youngest son, Louis, is named after my great-grandfather.”

In his time in workplace, based on Barrett, Rabaut occupied three completely different workplaces within the Longworth constructing.

“My first preference would be Longworth 1232, which he occupied when he sponsored his most memorable piece of legislation, which added “underneath God” to our Pledge of Allegiance in 1954,” wrote Barrett. “If Longworth 1232 isn’t available, I would appreciate the opportunity to pick Longworth 1227, his first office he occupied after he was elected in 1934, followed by Longworth 1221, which he occupied for two terms from 1949–1952.”

A number of hours after the letter went out, Barrett shared that his colleagues allowed him to pick out Longworth 1232 on social media:
