Truong My Lan, chairwoman of developer Van Thinh Phat Holdings Group, was sentenced in April for her position in fraud price greater than $12bn.

Lan and her accomplices have been charged with illegally controlling the Saigon Joint Inventory Industrial Financial institution (SCB) between 2012 and 2022 to siphon funds by 1000’s of ghost corporations and by bribing authorities officers.

From early 2018 to October 2022, when the state bailed out SCB after a run on its deposits, Lan appropriated giant sums by arranging illegal loans to shell corporations, investigators stated.

In her mitigation, Lan’s attorneys argued she has admitted guilt, proven regret, and paid again a part of the cash, state media reported.
