MSU college students will help in path designs throughout state

MSU college students will help in path designs throughout state

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Residents and officers in 5 communities evaluate, develop and replace native trails and pathways for elevated entry to pure areas.

College students within the Michigan State College Group Sustainability Division within the School of Agriculture and Pure Sources collaborating within the spring 2025 class about Michigan trails and path constructing will help the Michigan Division of Pure Sources working with 5 communities throughout the state in all features of their path and pathway programs.

The 5 communities are town of Sault Ste. Marie in Chippewa County, the village of Cassopolis in Cass County, Calhoun County, Clearwater Township in Kalkaska County and town and township of Charlevoix in Charlevoix County.

“The DNR is excited to be partnering with MSU in this collaborative effort that focuses on trails and helping communities bring to life their visions for connected paths in their communities,” Tim Novak, state trails coordinator for the DNR’s Parks and Recreation Division, was quoted as saying in an MSU information launch.

Officers from each the DNR and MSU say this mission is the primary of what they imagine can be an ongoing partnership between the 2 entities.

“I look forward to our continued work with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and their trails team in helping teach students the value of trail-building and working directly with community leaders,” MSU teacher Bob Wilson, who teaches the category concerned, was quoted in a information launch. “What a wonderful opportunity to learn and to provide trail plans for these communities.”

Novak of the DNR says the company and college are in search of future tasks in different municipalities.

“This is an amazing opportunity for all involved,” Novak stated. “We’re grateful for the assistance students will provide to these communities and their plans for local trails. If this sounds like a great match for your community’s connectivity and recreation goals, we’d love to hear from you.”
