Remembering River: MSU's consolation canine passes away

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Michigan State College Police and Public Security have shared that its consolation canine, River, has handed away after a brief battle with most cancers.

“River was more than just a member of our team; he was part of our family,” MSU Police and Public Security wrote in a Fb submit. “For those who have had the pleasure of meeting River, you know just how he touched the lives of so many Spartans. With his gentle demeanor and wagging tail, River had become a beacon of comfort and joy for students, faculty, and staff. River’s presence on campus was more than just comforting; it was therapeutic. In times of stress, exams, or just the hustle and bustle of life, River provided an opportunity for everyone to pause, take a deep breath, and enjoy a moment of calm. His impact was immeasurable, offering not just a distraction but genuine emotional support.”

The division added, “Behind every great canine is a dedicated human, and that brings us to Lt. Kim Parviainen, River’s amazing handler. Lt. Kim, your commitment and love shined through River, and we are incredibly grateful. River’s ability to connect with so many people is a testament to Kim’s hard work and the nurturing environment she provided for him. Thank you, River, for everything. You will be dearly missed but never forgotten.”
