Public security millage again on the poll for Eaton County in Might

Public security millage again on the poll for Eaton County in Might

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — The Eaton County Board of Commissioners introduced Thursday {that a} vote to put a public security millage shall be on the Might 6, 2025, poll to handle funding for employees and assets for the Prosecutor’s Workplace and Sheriff’s Workplace, together with Animal Management.

In November, the Separate Tax Limitation proposal failed on the polls and Eaton County officers responded that residents would see a delay in police responses and restricted patrol providers due to workers shortages.

“Public safety is my highest priority,” stated Commissioner Tim Barnes, Chair of the Public Security Committee in a information launch. “This millage would provide essential resources so we can keep our road patrol deputies on the road and get needed resources to the Prosecutor’s Office.”

Officers say the board is exploring ‘cost-saving’ measures together with potential reductions in non-essential providers akin to street patrol, which is its greatest non-mandated expense.

If a public security millage is handed and accepted, finances cuts shall be crucial in different areas, say Eaton County leaders.

“Even if a Public Safety millage were to pass, cuts still have to happen,” stated Board Chair Jim Mott in a information launch. “The revenue issue at the County goes beyond just public safety, but we know how important that service is to residents.”
