Two sailors die on separate yachts throughout Sydney to Hobart race – as 15 others withdraw

Two sailors have died after being struck on their yachts throughout a race in Australia amid poor climate situations, organisers have stated.

Each had been participating within the 722-mile-long Sydney to Hobart yacht race and handed away in a single day, race organisers Rolex stated in a press release.

They stated one sailor every on the entrants Flying Fish Arctos and Bowline was killed after being struck by their yacht’s increase – a big horizontal pole on the backside of a sail.

The names of the crew members who died haven’t been launched but.

In the meantime, 15 different yachts – together with favorite Grasp Lock Comanche – withdrew from the race over the climate.

Rolex then stated Flying Fish Arctos was crusing roughly 30 nautical miles (nm) east/south-east of Ulladulla when their incident occurred.

Later, Bowline was round 30nm east/north-east of Batemans Bay when a sailor was struck. Crew members on each yachts administered CPR however had been unsuccessful at resuscitating the sailors.

“As these incidents are being dealt with by the Water Police and all family members are yet to be contacted, we cannot provide further details at this stage,” Rolex added.

“Our thoughts are with the crews, family and friends of the deceased. Further information will be provided as it becomes available.”

In line with the race’s official web site, Flying Fish Arctos is manned by 12 individuals, together with veterans of earlier races.

Bowline was additionally manned by a skipper, a navigator and 7 different crew members.

The race will proceed because the fleet continues its passage to Structure Dock in Hobart, with the primary boats anticipated to reach afterward Friday or early Saturday morning.
