Jackson begins deer harvest in Ella Sharp Park

Jackson begins deer harvest in Ella Sharp Park

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — The Metropolis of Jackson is holding a deer harvest on Friday, Jan. 17 to assist management the inhabitants residing in/close to Ella Sharp Park.

The Metropolis of Jackson says that residents are suggested to remain out of the park and close by gold course throughout the next dates so the harvest might be performed safely:

5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17 to five:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 18

5 p.m. Saturday, Jan 18 to five:30 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 19

5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 19 to five:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 20

The park and golf course might be open to residents throughout daytime hours on Saturday and Sunday. Solely approved personnel might be allowed within the park throughout the harvest. Streets by means of the park might be closed to the general public when the harvest is happening.

The Michigan Division of Pure Assets (MDNR) and a contractor will help the town with the harvest. Roughly 80 deer are anticipated to be culled.

Venison from the harvest might be donated to Immanuel Lutheran Church’s meals pantry for distribution to the neighborhood.

“Our department plans on conducting annual harvests to keep the population in check long-term, along with considering what other areas of Jackson could benefit fromdeer population control,” stated Director Kelli Hoover.
