LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — The Michigan Legal professional Basic has charged 52-year-old Kirk Lanam, who’s accused of inflating his navy service whereas operating a Livingston County veterans service canine nonprofit, with embezzlement from a weak grownup. He pleaded not responsible.
Lanam, of Hartland, was arrested in Oakland County Wednesday and arraigned in Rochester Hills Thursday. He was charged with 5 felonies for allegedly financially exploiting an 87-year-old man by fraudulently acquiring authorized energy of legal professional in March of 2024, figuring out the person was a weak or incapacitated grownup with a court-appointed guardian.

“Exploiting unsuspecting victims or those who rely on others for support for personal gain is unacceptable,” Michigan Legal professional Basic Dana Nessel says. “My Department takes reports of elder abuse very seriously. We will thoroughly investigate allegations of wrongdoing against our vulnerable adult population and prosecute those who prey on them.”

Lanam is charged with 4 counts of embezzling $100,000 or extra from a weak grownup, every a 20-year felony, and one depend of fraudulently acquiring a signature, a 10-year felony.
Lanam’s pre-exam convention is ready for Feb. 3, and a preliminary examination is ready for Feb. 10.
