Habitat for Humanity Capital Area restores house for household

Habitat for Humanity Capital Area restores house for household 

LANSING, Mich.(WLNS)— A deserving household was handed the keys to their new house. 

Habitat for Humanity repairs and builds houses to promote to folks needing reasonably priced housing. 

The nonprofit’s Capitol Area restored a greater than 100-year-old house for a single mom of 4.

Rebellia Cadiuex was excited to name the house on Jerome Avenue hers. 

“Have a house, and not have to stress about numbers going up and down and left and right, and what’s going to leak next?” said Cadiuex. “And who’s going to have to come through my house?  You know? It’s a good journey.”

Cadiuex says her boss was the one who pushed her to use. 

As a single mom of 4 youngsters, she thought she was going to be denied. 

“I didn’t think I made enough as a single parent,” said Cadiuex. “Me, being a single parent it’s like, I have to pay all these bills. My kids have to eat. You know what I mean? And, can I really do that in a home?”

Brent Taylor, CEO and President of Habitat for Humanity Capital Area says when a home-owner applies, the method takes round 2 years. 

“For the potential home buyer, there’s home buyer education. There’s financial education. What we call sweat equity,” said Taylor. “Where home buyers put 150 or more hours into construction of their home and also helping us with other habitat projects.” 

Taylor says it’s a privilege to assist the neighborhood. 

“You know, the folks that we work with probably wouldn’t have the opportunity to own a home for not the Habitat for Humanity program,” said Taylor. “So, really being along with that journey with them is one of the most exciting things for us at Habitat.”

Though the house just isn’t fairly completed but, Cadiuex and her household are grateful to unlock their new journey. 

“We don’t have to worry about people coming in or rent going up and down. My kids are excited,” said Cadiuex. “We all get to start our lives.” 

Cadiuex is about to finalize the acquisition of her house subsequent month with an reasonably priced mortgage. 

Then she begins the move-in course of. 

Her house is one among 4 houses donated by UM Well being Sparrow.
