River in Argentina turns vibrant purple

A river in a suburb of Buenos Aires in Argentina has turned purple, sparking concern amongst residents.

Footage and pictures of the Sarandi watercourse – which flows into the Rio de la Plata estuary – present the sudden change in color.

It isn’t the primary time it has modified color, in response to native media experiences, with residents elevating fears of contamination.

“I have lived here all my life. Today, we have this red water. It has been grey, it has been green, it has been violet, bluish… very brown,” one resident informed La Nacion.

“On other days we have a thick yellow layer that left the top hard and had an acidic smell,” one other native informed Pagina 12.

Officers have been to the location to remove samples of the purple water for testing.

The area’s atmosphere ministry informed La Nacion samples of the water can be analysed to seek out out what “is causing the discolouration”.
