China says the US has “gravely backpedalled” on its place on Taiwan after a authorities reality sheet was modified to take away a line on American opposition to independence for the breakaway province.

“We urge the US to… stop emboldening and supporting Taiwan independence and avoid further damaging China-US relations and the peace and stability of the Taiwan Strait,” Chinese language overseas ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun stated.

Taiwan and China break up in 1949 through the civil battle that introduced the communists to energy on the mainland, with the defeated Nationalists fleeing throughout the Taiwan Strait to arrange a rival authorities on the island.

In the present day, China views Taiwan as a breakaway province, with which it guarantees to in the future reunify, and has not dominated out the usage of power to take action.
