LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — It is Fats Tuesday, and Michigan bakeries are already having a busy day promoting Paczki to hungry prospects.
Paczki Day is a Polish custom that falls on Fats Tuesday yearly. Within the 1700s, Packzi was made to indulge earlier than Lent’s 40-day fasting interval.
“We make all of our glazes first, and then we make all of our fillings, and then we start our production on Sunday, actually, and that’s when we make the dough,” mentioned Monica Gauthier, Co-owner of Groovy Donuts. She added it had taken three days to organize for the day.
She says the method of creating the dough requires exact measurements and persistence. “Before we make the dough, we actually pre-measure everything, weigh everything out precisely so then we are kind of like an automation line, and we just start going for three days straight, it’s crazy! So that’s why we do a Monday pre-order pickup.”
