Emma Raducanu has stated she “couldn’t see the ball through tears” after she noticed a stalker within the crowd on the Dubai Open final month.

The 22-year-old stated she may “barely breathe” after receiving repeated undesirable consideration from a person displaying “fixated behaviour” among the many crowds.

“I was obviously very distraught,” she instructed reporters.

“It was a very emotional time,” Raducanu stated.

“After the match I did break down in tears, but not necessarily because I lost.

“There was simply a lot emotion in the previous few weeks of the occasions taking place, and I simply wanted that week off to take a breather and are available right here. I really feel lots higher.”

The former US Open champion was speaking before the start of the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells – where she will play for the first time since her ordeal.

She told Sky Sports: “I am very comfortable to be in Indian Wells. It is my favorite match outdoors of the Slams… and I feel being right here I really feel lots higher.

“I wasn’t necessarily sure if I was going to come and compete so soon after what happened in Dubai but I’m glad I made the decision to come here. I love being here and I’m happy on the court.”

It isn’t the primary time Raducanu has been focused by a stalker. An obsessive fan was given a restraining order in 2022 after coming to her home thrice.

Raducanu will face Japan’s Moyuka Uchijima, ranked three locations above her, within the first spherical in California. The winner will face third seed Coco Gauff.
