MSP trooper carries torch for Particular Olympics World Video games

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — One among Michigan’s very personal helped ship the Flame of Hope through the opening ceremony of the 2025 Particular Olympics World Winter Video games in Italy.

MSP Spl/Tpr. Jacob Lewis, with the Site visitors Crash Reconstruction Unit, was considered one of eight crew leaders chosen to assist carry the torch on its eleven-day journey, the place members of regulation enforcement took the torch from Athens and ran it to the venue in Turin, elevating consciousness for these with mental disabilities

“I have been involved with Special Olympics Michigan and the Law Enforcement Torch Run since joining the MSP in 2016,” stated Lewis. “My participation quickly turned into a passion. I feel incredibly honored to have been chosen as a Guardian of the Flame to represent the organization and the MSP on an international stage.”   

Lewis was assigned to the Closing Leg Group, representing eight regulation enforcement businesses and together with greater than 50 members of U.S. regulation enforcement and 30 worldwide members. The crew was additionally accompanied by one of many competing athletes.

Lewis’ crew ran the torch into Pala Alpirour Stadium on Saturday as a part of the competitors’s opening ceremony.

“The MSP has strong ties to the Special Olympics and has built authentic relationships with its amazing athletes over many years,” stated Col. James F. Grady II, director of the MSP. “I commend Trooper Lewis and all of our members who participate in the fundraisers, races and games year after year.”

Whereas in Italy, Lewis hung out assembly with athletes and colleagues from across the globe to share policing methods, techniques, and academic instruments to scale back the victimization of individuals with mental disabilities.
