A supply driver who wanted pores and skin grafts after being burned when a scorching tea from Starbucks spilled into his lap has been awarded $50m (£38.6m) in damages.

Michael Garcia suffered third-degree burns to his genitals, groin and inside thighs and has everlasting and life-changing disfigurement after accumulating the drink at a California drive-through, based on his authorized crew.

His negligence lawsuit blamed the accidents on Starbucks, claiming an worker didn’t wedge the scalding-hot tea firmly sufficient right into a takeaway tray.

Video footage reveals Mr Garcia being handed a tray of three drinks on the serving window in Los Angeles and showing to battle as he drives his car away.

A Los Angeles County jury present in favour of Mr Garcia after he launched authorized motion over the incident on 8 February 2020.

His lawyer Nick Rowley stated his shopper’s “life has been forever changed”.

“This jury verdict is a critical step in holding Starbucks accountable for flagrant disregard for customer safety and failure to accept responsibility,” he added.

Starbucks stated it sympathised with Mr Garcia, however plans to lodge an enchantment.

In an announcement, the worldwide coffeehouse chain stated: “We disagree with the jury’s decision that we were at fault for this incident and believe the damages awarded to be excessive.”

The agency added it was “committed to the highest safety standards” in dealing with scorching drinks.
