New Alba Occasion chief Kenny MacAskill vows to ‘ship dream of independence’

Kenny MacAskill has pledged to ship Alex Salmond’s “dream of independence” for Scotland after being elected as the brand new chief of the Alba Occasion.

Former first minister Mr Salmond based the get together after leaving the SNP and his loss of life final 12 months left it looking for a brand new chief.

The competition was triggered after Mr Salmond, 69, died of a coronary heart assault whereas attending a convention in North Macedonia in October.

“He will never be forgotten but the duty that now falls to me and all Alba Party members is to deliver his dream of independence.”

Neale Hanvey was elected to switch Mr MacAskill as depute chief, profitable 77.8% of votes solid to the 22.2% which went to challenger Chris McEleny.

The Alba Occasion was arrange by Mr Salmond within the lead as much as the 2021 Holyrood election. No get together candidate has been elected on the poll field.

Mr MacAskill, a former SNP justice secretary, defected to Alba in 2021 whereas serving as MP for East Lothian.

Mr Hanvey additionally defected from the SNP to Alba in 2001 whereas MP for Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath.
