264 new Michigan corrections officers graduate from coaching academy

264 new Michigan corrections officers graduate from coaching academy

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — 264 corrections officers graduated from coaching throughout the state of Michigan Friday, with 224 of them celebrating their achievements at a commencement ceremony on the Lansing Middle.

The recruits graduated from the Decrease Peninsula Recruit Academy. The Michigan Division of Corrections says the brand new officers will assist cut back vacancies at services throughout the state.

“We’re excited this sizeable class of recruits has accomplished their academy coaching and are prepared to start serving throughout Michigan,” stated MDOC Director Heidi E. Washington. “We are incredibly proud to welcome them to the department along with their 40 counterparts in the Northern Region cohort class who graduated last month. I thank them all for choosing a career in corrections.”

The academy class began its coaching in early February. Throughout the academy, they obtain hands-on coaching in bodily drills, search procedures, CPR and first help, de-escalation methods, and different mandatory expertise for the job.

The division is presently recruiting for the following academy, which is able to start on April 14, and the one after, which is able to start on April 28.
