Jim Baker stepping down as Lansing Catholic's soccer coach

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) – For the primary time in over three many years, the Lansing Catholic soccer program will not have Jim Baker on workers.

Baker has been with the Cougars for 32 seasons and not too long ago introduced he’ll be stepping down because the varsity head coach.

After 28 years as an assistant coach, Baker took over this system in 2021 and led it for the final 4 seasons. In his first 12 months as head coach, and together with his youngest son, Joey, because the beginning quarterback, the Cougars gained the Division 6 state championship.

This previous season, Lansing Catholic went 10-4 and completed because the Division 6 runner-up.

“He has been a passionate presence in our community for decades,” stated Dominic Iocco, President of Lansing Catholic Excessive College, in a press launch on Tuesday. “His influence will be felt for years to come — not just in our football program, but in the lives of the young men he’s helped shape.”

Based on the press launch, in 1995, he based the Junior Cougars youth soccer program, which has launched generations of student-athletes to the sport and to Cougar values. With Baker’s assist, Junior Cougars has grown right into a foundational athletic program — not solely growing future Cougar soccer gamers, but additionally increasing to 13 different sports activities for the youth in the neighborhood.

Lansing Catholic Athletic Director, Kenny Goodrich remarked, “Jim’s legacy is one of consistency,commitment, and care. He’s helped shape our players into not just better athletes, but betterpeople. We are beyond grateful for his decades of service.”

Baker can also be the CEO of Innovare, a company workplace furnishings vendor in Lansing, andis concerned within the Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce, Knights of Columbus, and St.Gerard Catholic Church.
