Regulation enforcement memorial held in Jackson

JACKSON, Mich. (WLNS) — Wednesday, police held their annual regulation enforcement memorial at Horace Blackman Park in Jackson, spotlighting the lives misplaced within the line of responsibility. 6 Information spoke to officers about how necessary the occasion was for them and the households of those that made the last word sacrifice.

“We have a lot of things going on, the salute, the roll call of heroes,” says Jackson Police Chief Christopher Simpson. “As you can see, the bagpiper, the memorial songs, the prayers, Taps, the gun salute, all of the law enforcement community, our governmental leaders out here. But, the roll call of heroes is the reason why we’re here.”

It was a day of remembrance for fallen heroes who’ve formed and guarded the group. Simpson says the memorial was to not mourn, however to honor those that gave their lives for the security of the group.

“Know that we still think about them,” says Simpson. “We still honor them and we still, you know, are excited about Jackson honoring them more or less paying respect to their loved ones, who’ve given the ultimate sacrifice.”

Simpson says group assist throughout instances like these is paramount.

“We think that is very important. We saw the families during the roll call of heroes,” says Simpson. “It is important that they come out and know that we still think about them. We still honor them, and we still, you know, are excited about Jackson honoring them.”

Simpson says Wednesday’s occasion is a mirrored image of Nationwide Police Week, held subsequent week, Could 11–17.
