Staff of the Week: Grand Ledge lacrosse wins third straight CAAC Championship

GRAND LEDGE, Mich. (WLNS) – The Grand Ledge boys lacrosse staff wrapped up its third straight CAAC title final week with an 18-1 win over St. Johns.

The Comets have received seven video games in a row and are 11-2 total on the season.

“We’ve come into our full potential a little bit [recently], which is a great time to do it toward the end of the season,” stated senior assault Tieson Cooper. “First couple of games, first couple of weeks, we had a lot to improve on which we focused on in practice and we really have [improved]. So yeah, it’s just good to see the guys’ hustle, grit, ground balls, playing as a team, it’s all coming together toward the end.”

Grand Ledge has three common season video games remaining, all on the street, towards East Grand Rapids, Battle Creek Harper Creek and Detroit Nation Day.

The staff has earned the No. 5 seed within the upcoming postseason, the best seed in program historical past. The Comets have misplaced within the state quarterfinals every of the final three years however stay assured they’re able to pushing previous that time this spring.

“Most of the team has been a part of the last couple of regional championships and we’re not afraid of big moments,” stated head coach Michael Transeth. “We had a really tough game with Byron Center our last game. They’re a really good team. We opened the year with Clarkston and Hartland so I think we’re battle tested.”

Cooper has helped cleared the path as one of many high gamers within the state however loads of youthful Comets have stepped into bigger roles this season.

“One name that comes to mind is Dane Evans,” stated Cooper. “The kid’s a little animal out there, gets every ground ball in sight. And then Maddoc Taszreak, who had to step in for Landon [Parker] when he graduated last year. He’s been doing a great job at the faceoff X.”

Parker, now a freshman at Monmouth, set the nationwide report for profession faceoff wins throughout his time at Grand Ledge.

“I think it starts in practice,” stated Transeth when requested in regards to the success of the youthful gamers this spring. “We have very talented upperclassmen, so they get to battle them every single day in practice, and I think it helps prepare them for gameday. Then just all the early-season games with, like we said, Hartland, Clarkston, Rockford, Forest Hills Northern, Midland Dow. It’s really helped us, helped those young guys progress and get along.”
