Prep softball: Granada Hills, San Pedro, Venice and Carson win playoff openers

Prep softball: Granada Hills, San Pedro, Venice and Carson win playoff openers

Granada Hills means enterprise within the Metropolis Part softball playoffs that started Thursday. Overwhelmed within the championship sport the final two seasons, the Highlanders opened motion with a 13-0, mercy-rule win over Banning within the Open Division.

Addison Moorman gave up no hits and struck out 11 in 5 innings. Lainey Brown and Elysse Diaz every had three hits. Granada Hills, seeded No. 1 within the eight-team match, will play host to Venice in Wednesday’s semifinals.

Venice 2, El Camino Actual 1: Within the backside of the ninth inning, the Gondoliers received it when Abigail Acensio acquired a walk-off single with the bases loaded. Violet Acensio struck out 4 with no walks in 9 innings. Sophomore Remy Glassman of El Camino Actual struck out 12.

San Pedro 6, Kennedy 1: Caroline Baker scattered 9 hits, whereas putting out eight with no walks, for the Pirates, who could have a rematch with Marine League rival Carson within the semifinals on Wednesday. Jenna Ortega had two hits and two RBIs.

Carson 16, Birmingham 5: The Colts picked up a mercy-rule win within the sixth inning. Rylee Gardner hit two dwelling run and drove in six.
