British man indicted over plot to smuggle US navy know-how to China

A British man has been indicted for allegedly attempting to smuggle US navy know-how to China and organising the stalking and harassment of a Beijing critic.

John Miller, 63, together with Cui Guanghai, 43, of China, and an unidentified US everlasting resident, had been indicted on Friday by federal grand juries in Milwaukee and Los Angeles.

The Division of Justice stated they’d been charged with interstate stalking and conspiracy to commit interstate stalking and conspiracy, smuggling, and violations of the Arms Export Management Act.

Deputy lawyer basic Todd Blanche stated: “As alleged, the defendants targeted a U.S. resident for exercising his constitutional right to free speech and conspired to traffic sensitive American military technology to the Chinese regime. “

“This is a blatant assault on both our national security and our democratic values.”

“The defendants allegedly plotted to harass and interfere with an individual who criticised the actions of the People’s Republic of China while exercising their constitutionally protected free speech rights within the United States of America,” added FBI deputy director Dan Bongino.

The indictment says the pair put in a monitoring system on the sufferer’s automotive and slashed its tyres.

They’re additionally alleged to have purchased and destroyed creative statues created by the sufferer depicting President Xi and President Xi’s spouse.

Cui and Miller paid two different people round $36,500 (£27,100) to persuade the sufferer to cease displaying his statues on-line, the indictment provides.

Cui and Miller face the next most penalties if convicted: 5 years in jail for conspiracy; 5 years in jail for interstate stalking; 20 years in jail for violation of the Arms Export Management Act; and 10 years in jail for smuggling.

The 2 males are in Serbia and the US are coordinating with Serbian officers relating to extraditions.

A International, Commonwealth and Improvement Workplace spokesperson stated: “We are providing consular assistance to a British national following his arrest in Serbia in April and are in touch with the local authorities and his family.”
