Russia’s former transport minister Roman Starovoit discovered lifeless ‘with gunshot wound’

Russia’s former transport minister Roman Starovoit discovered lifeless ‘with gunshot wound’

Russia’s former transport minister Roman Starovoit has been discovered lifeless with a gunshot wound in his automotive simply hours after it was revealed he had been sacked from his function.

Mr Starovoit, the ex-governor of the Kursk area, is reported to have taken his personal life.

The report of his dying comes after he was dismissed from his transport function by President Vladimir Putin.

In a press release on Monday, the Investigative Committee of Russia mentioned: “The body of the former minister of transport of the Russian Federation, Roman Vladimirovich Starovoit, was discovered in his personal vehicle with a gunshot wound today in the Odintsovo city district.”

The circumstances surrounding Mr Starovoit’s dying are being investigated, with the assertion including: “The main version is suicide.”

Earlier on Monday, it was revealed Mr Putin had fired Mr Starovoit after barely a 12 months within the job.

Mr Starovoit was appointed transport minister in Could 2024 after spending virtually 5 years as governor of the Kursk area bordering Ukraine.

Just a few months after he left his function as governor, Ukrainian troops spilled over the border into Kursk as Kyiv launched the most important international incursion into Russian territory because the Second World Battle.

Ukrainian forces have been pushed out of Kursk earlier this 12 months.

Some regional officers in Kursk have been subsequently arrested on abuse of workplace fees.

In April, Mr Starovoit’s successor as governor, Alexei Smirnov, was charged with embezzling cash earmarked for defence functions.

Andrei Nikitin, a former governor of the Novgorod area, has been appointed appearing transport minister.

When earlier requested about Mr Starovoit’s sudden departure, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov mentioned: “At present, in the president’s opinion, Andrei Nikitin’s professional qualities and experience will best contribute to ensuring that this agency, which the president described as extremely important, fulfils its tasks and functions.”
