LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — The Michigan State Police (MSP) has introduced the addition of 4 new Ok-9 groups, in addition to three alternative groups, following their commencement from the MSP 2025 Primary Canine Faculty on Friday.

MSP reviews that there are 42 Ok-9 items all through the state, with a complete of 61 canine working within the division.
Collectively, the groups deal with greater than 6,100 service requests yearly.
“Our canine teams provide an invaluable service to our police partners and the communities we protect,” stated Michigan State Police Director Col. James F. Grady II on the MSP Newsroom web site.
“They cover every corner of our state, whenever the need arises, helping locate missing and vulnerable individuals, finding firearms used to commit crimes and taking drugs off the streets.”
The Primary Canine Faculty is a 14-week coaching program performed by veteran MSP Canine Unit members.
MSP reviews that the handlers obtained greater than 500 hours of instruction, and the canine groups journey greater than 100 miles on foot whereas coaching in monitoring, narcotics detection, constructing search, space search, property search, obedience, and aggression.
