GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — One in every of Grand Rapids’ cornerstone firms is being bought. Steelcase introduced Monday that the furnishings firm shall be bought to HNI Inc. in a $2.2 billion deal.

In an announcement, HNI Chairman Jeffrey Lorenger known as the transfer an acquisition that “brings collectively two revered firms with complementary strengths.”

“We have long admired Steelcase for its insight-led approach, which has helped shape our industry for decades,” Lorenger acknowledged. “With the Steelcase portfolio of brands and as in-office work trends accelerate, we will be even better positioned to meet the evolving needs of the workplace.”

Lorenger will proceed to function the mixed firm’s chairman. Steelcase will keep its branding and its headquarters in Grand Rapids. Muscatine, Iowa-based HNI didn’t touch upon whether or not any jobs could be minimize as a part of the deal.

In a letter to staff, Steelcase management say the transfer will strengthen the corporate’s “position to succeed.”

“Combining our distinct portfolios will allow us to reach a broader range of customers,” the letter acknowledged. “Together with HNI, we will be positioned to accelerate and increase investments in digital transformation and customer-centric buying experiences. I’m excited to see the enhanced capabilities the combined teams will deliver for our customers and dealers, advancing the industry through innovation.”

It’s the finish of a long term for Steelcase. The corporate was based in 1912 by Peter M. Wege, centered on metal workplace furnishings in a metropolis identified worldwide for its picket furnishings. Steelcase has roughly 11,300 staff and has practically 800 sellers internationally.

The Proper Place, Inc., a West Michigan financial improvement group, says it is going to work with the brand new homeowners.
