MSP air crews honored on Aviation Day

MSP air crews honored on Aviation Day 

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — The Michigan State Police Aviation Unit performs an enormous position to find lacking folks and searching down harmful suspects, and Tuesday, MSP honored their laborious work statewide. 

In honor of Nationwide Aviation Day, the Michigan State Police is highlighting the important position the Search and Rescue helicopters play in defending Michigan residents. Sgt. Cole Martin says the aviation unit has been saving Michiganders since 1939.

“We’re type of all over, ensuring that A. residents are secure whereas we’re on patrol, but in addition with the ability to reply to lacking kids, lacking aged, or any type of public security risk or any type of problem throughout the state,” mentioned Martin.

Martin says the search and rescue unit patrols 5 nights per week, and again in April, they saved a lacking 2-year-old in Jackson County. Col. James Grady II, chief of the state police, says the unit does all it will probably to assist Michiganders, regardless of the place they’re within the state. 

“Whether or not it is within the metropolis of Detroit or over in Grand Rapids. Flint, whether or not it is for a rescue mission, a misplaced youngster,“ said Grady. “These aviators do an excellent job every day.”

Charles Scruggs, a state trooper and canine handler, works alongside the unit and says the helicopters assist them throughout missions.
