Jackson County Animal Shelter in search of 61 houses for rescued canines

JACKSON, Mich. (WLNS) — The Jackson County Animal Shelter is continuous to ask for the neighborhood’s assist in discovering houses for greater than 60 canines rescued from a suspected hoarding scenario.

After aiding within the rescue of dozens of small canines and one cat final Thursday, the shelter now says six extra canines have arrived from Wayne County.

“The dogs were very, very much loved by their owner. They reached out for help because they knew it was more than what they could handle at this time,” stated Director of the Jackson County Animal Shelter, Lydia Sattler. “We did accept six more today from that home and I think we’ll be all set.” 

Sattler says the shelter is accustomed to high-volume rescue conditions however provides that if the canines have been somewhat larger, it could have been completely different.

“If this was 60 large dogs, we would be talking a whole different story because we would not have the capacity to house 60 large dogs all at one time. But being that they were so tiny…we were able to have the space for them,” Sattler stated.

Andrea Atsalakis has been a clerk on the shelter for practically three years, and says that any type of neighborhood assist is essential to serving to take care of these creatures.

“Even if they don’t have space in their homes to support these dogs, they have their hearts and they want to help out any way they can,” Atsalakis stated.

Sattler says the assist from volunteers when the canines first arrived was pivotal in getting them prepared for adoption.

“We’ve been having amazing help and assistance from our volunteers, and they gave all the dogs baths when they came in and that was a big job,” Sattler stated. 

Sattler says the shelter is accepting same-day purposes for brand spanking new adoptions for the puppies, in addition to urging the neighborhood to donate gadgets equivalent to collars and harnesses.
