Man arrested in reference to airports cyber assault

A person has been arrested within the UK by the Nationwide Crime Company (NCA) as a part of an investigation right into a cyber incident which prompted chaos at European airports.

Flights had been cancelled at Brussels Airport, and several other extra had been delayed at Heathrow, Berlin, and Dublin, amongst others, leaving passengers stranded.

The incident, which was reported on 19 September, hit the methods of Collins Aerospace, which operates check-in and boarding methods.

Passengers reported being unable to test in on-line, queuing for hours, and their flights ultimately not taking off.

NCA officers, supported by the South East Regional Organised Crime Unit, arrested a person in his 40s in West Sussex on Tuesday night on suspicion of Pc Misuse Act offences. He has been launched on conditional bail.

Deputy director Paul Foster, head of the NCA’s Nationwide Cyber Crime Unit, stated: “Though this arrest is a constructive step, the investigation into this incident is in its early phases and stays ongoing.

“Cybercrime is a persistent global threat that continues to cause significant disruption to the UK.

“Alongside our companions right here and abroad, the NCA is dedicated to lowering that menace in an effort to shield the British public.”
