Web blackout throughout Afghanistan in Taliban ‘immorality’ crackdown

An web and cell phone blackout has hit Afghanistan, as a part of a Taliban crackdown on immorality.

Web connectivity in Afghanistan had flatlined to about 1%, stated NetBlocks, a world web entry monitoring organisation.

“The incident is likely to severely limit the public’s ability to contact the outside world,” it added.

It’s the first time Afghanistan has skilled a shutdown of this scale because the former insurgents seized energy in August 2021.

Earlier this month, a number of provinces misplaced some fibre-optic connections after Taliban chief Hibatullah Akhundzada issued a decree banning the service to stop immorality.

Connectivity was minimize in phases on Monday, with the ultimate stage affecting phone providers, which share infrastructure with the web.

Kabul, the capital, suffered the sharpest drop in web connectivity, adopted by the western metropolis of Herat and Kandahar within the south.
