LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer advised state staff Tuesday to indicate as much as work Wednesday, anticipating a state finances or continuation deal to cross earlier than the Oct. 1 deadline.

“Tomorrow, state government will continue and work will go on in the legislature to finalize a balanced, bipartisan state budget this week,” said Whitmer. As drafting continues, I’m grateful to legislators on both sides of the aisle for their work and I am ready to conduct a final legal review and sign it into law after they send me the budget. Meanwhile, state government will continue providing uninterrupted services and all state employees will work tomorrow, getting things done for their fellow Michiganders. We’re almost there. Let’s get it done.”

State lawmakers have till 11:59 p.m. Tuesday to cross the finances, however Whitmer says operations will proceed as normal, telling representatives of UAW Native 6000 — the union for state staff — to proceed coming into work regardless of the looming shutdown.

Advocates urge Michigan legislators to cross state finances

As of Tuesday, it has been 90 days because the constitutional deadline for the legislature to cross a finances.
