LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — In accordance with a challenge record reviewed by Reuters, the U.S. Division of Power is contemplating revoking $1.1 billion in awards to automotive producers, together with $500 million allotted to Basic Motors to transform the Lansing Grand River Meeting Plant to EVs.

In July 2024, the White Home reported that the plant funding announcement was made as a part of former President Joe Biden’s Investing in America agenda.

“The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) today announced $1.7 billion to support the conversion of 11 shuttered or at-risk auto manufacturing and assembly facilities across eight states—Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, and Virginia—to manufacture electric vehicles and their supply chain,” the administration mentioned in a information launch.
