Canada’s new Prime Minister Mark Carney has met the King this afternoon, and can meet Sir Keir Starmer later, as a part of his first overseas journey since being sworn in.

Mr Carney replied as they shook palms: “Your Majesty. Lovely to see you…Thank you very much.”

He advised the King pointing to his personal lapel: “Bit of a disaster today sir. My Order of Canada pin broke.”

Mr Carney added, prompting a chuckle from the King: “Yes. It fell on the tarmac… which is proof that our founding people is the British.”

The King provided his pin earlier than telling his customer, “it’s a great treat to see you again” with Mr Carney replying: “Much to catch up on.”

Mr Carney, who was sworn in on Friday, may even be assembly Sir Keir throughout his journey to London.
