In an announcement after the vote, Training Secretary Bridget Phillipson stated a transfer in the direction of industrial motion by instructing unions “would be indefensible”, given work being carried out to extend faculty attendance and urged the NEU to “put children first”.

NEU normal secretary Daniel Kebede stated years of what he referred to as “real-terms pay cuts” had left the occupation in disaster.

“This will only make things worse,” Mr Kebede stated. “Our members tell us every day of the desperate state their schools are in due to lack of funding.”

The union says the provide falls under inflation and lags behind private-sector wage progress.
