'Aerial patrols' to survey high-voltage transmission websites throughout Michigan

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — ITC shall be conducting “aerial patrols” of the high-voltage transmission constructions and features in Michigan from Might 27 to June 30.

ITC shall be utilizing helicopters to survey these websites. The patrols will present an general standing of the overhead transmission techniques operated by ITC`s Michigan working entities, ITCTransmission and Michigan Electrical Transmission Firm, LLC (METC).

The inspections will cowl almost the entire Decrease Peninsula, together with all or a part of the next counties:

Might 27-30 – Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, Washtenaw and Wayne.

June 2-11 – Bay, Genesee, Gratiot, Huron, Ingham, Isabella, Lapeer, Livingston, Macomb, Midland, Montcalm, Oakland, Saginaw, Sanilac, Shiawassee, St. Clair and Tuscola.

June 12-17 – Allegan, Barry, Department, Calhoun, Clinton, Eaton, Hillsdale, Ingham, Jackson, Kalamazoo, Kent, Lenawee, Monroe, Ottawa, Shiawassee, St. Joseph, Van Buren and Washtenaw.

June 18-21 – Allegan, Clinton, Gratiot, Ionia, Isabella, Kent, Lake, Mason, Mecosta, Midland, Montcalm, Muskegon, Newaygo, Oceana and Ottawa.

June 24-30 – Alcona, Alpena, Antrim, Arenac, Bay, Charlevoix, Cheboygan, Clare, Crawford, Emmet, Gladwin, Grand Traverse, Iosco, Kalkaska, Lake, Leelanau, Manistee, Mason, Midland, Montmorency, Ogemaw, Oscoda, Otsego, Presque Isle, Roscommon and Wexford.

These patrols are required by the North American Electrical Reliability Company (NERC) as a part of the ITC’s vegetation administration program.

Inspections of all transmission constructions and tools, together with, however not restricted to, monopoles, metal towers, wooden poles, conductors (wires), insulators, and different tools, shall be performed.

Inspection crews will test for broken or worn tools and vegetation hazards.

ITC says inspection flights are sometimes performed at low altitudes to permit for correct visible inspection of kit for lightning harm, put on, or different potential issues.
