EasyJet’s chief working officer David Morgan added: “It’s extremely disappointing to see an ATC failure once again causing disruption to our customers at this busy and important time of year for travel.

“Whereas our precedence right now is supporting our prospects, we are going to need to perceive from NATS what steps they’re taking to make sure points do not proceed.”

NATS is yet to comment on the calls for Mr Rolfe’s resignation – but has stressed that the glitch is not believed to be “cyber associated”.

“This was a radar-related concern which was resolved by shortly switching to the back-up system throughout which era we lowered visitors to make sure security,” a spokesperson had mentioned.

Departures at airports throughout the nation have now resumed – however passengers are being urged to test with their airline earlier than heading to terminals.
