American-Israeli hostage Edan Alexander launched, Hamas says

Hamas says it has launched Edan Alexander, an Israeli soldier who holds American citizenship, as a part of ongoing efforts to attain a everlasting ceasefire with Israel.

The 21-year-old is believed to be the final dwelling American hostage in Gaza.

The militant group introduced on Sunday it might launch the hostage.

In an announcement, the militant group mentioned: ” The Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades released the captured Israeli soldier, Idan Alexander, a US citizen, a short while ago, following contacts with the US administration. This comes as part of the efforts being made by mediators to achieve a ceasefire, open the crossings, and allow aid and relief to reach our people in the Gaza Strip.

“This step comes after essential contacts by which Hamas demonstrated positivity and excessive flexibility.

“We affirm that serious and responsible negotiations achieve results in the release of prisoners. However, continuing the aggression prolongs their suffering and may kill them.

“We affirm the motion’s readiness to right away start negotiations to achieve a complete and sustainable ceasefire settlement, together with the withdrawal of the occupation military, the top of the siege, a prisoner change, and the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip.

“We urge the Trump administration to continue its efforts to end this brutal war waged by the war criminal Netanyahu against children, women, and defenceless civilians in the Gaza Strip.”

Mr Alexander’s dad and mom, who stay within the US, made the journey to Israel forward of the anticipated launch.

The household mentioned they had been deeply grateful to US President Donald Trump and his administration for its work to safe the discharge – and have urged the Israeli authorities to proceed efforts to free all hostages.

Mr Alexander, who’s from New Jersey, was 19 when he was taken from his base on the border with Gaza in southern Israel through the Hamas assaults on 7 October 2023.
