American tennis star Taylor Townsend apologises for feedback about Chinese language meals

American tennis participant Taylor Townsend has apologised after dealing with a backlash over feedback she made about Chinese language meals.

The 29-year-old described the meals served at a buffet forward of a event in Shenzhen, China, because the “craziest thing”.

Townsend, who was within the metropolis for the Billie Jean King Cup finals, stated she apologised “sincerely” for her feedback.

In video posted on Instagram, the world’s top-ranked doubles participant stated: “This is the craziest thing I’ve ever seen … and people eating this.

“As I am going again and I look … these persons are actually killing frogs … bullfrogs.

“Aren’t those poisonous? Aren’t those the ones that give you warts and boils and stuff?

“And the truth that it is all stewed up with chillies, peppers, and onions. Like oh, you actually made this a dish.

“All in all I’d give this like a solid two out of 10 so far, because this is crazy.”

In an internet backlash, she was criticised for not respecting the tradition – and stated in her apology she was “privileged” to have the ability to expertise totally different elements of the world.

In her apology, Townsend wrote: “I just wanted to come on here and apologise sincerely from the bottom of my heart.

“I perceive that I’m so privileged as an expert athlete to have the ability to journey all world wide and expertise cultural variations, which is likely one of the issues I really like a lot about what I do.

“I have had nothing but the most amazing experience and time here and in the tournament. Everyone has been so kind and so gracious and the things that I said are not representative of that at all.”

Final month, Townsend was concerned in a fiery alternate with Jelena Ostapenko on the US Open in New York.

Ostapenko, from Latvia, was additionally seen pointing her finger on the American – who had clinched a 7-5 6-1 second-round victory.
