At the very least 15 individuals die in New Delhi practice station stampede – as hundreds head to India’s Maha Kumbh competition

At the very least 15 individuals have died and an additional 15 are injured after a stampede on the most important practice station in New Delhi on Saturday night, the chief minister of the capital has stated.

The lethal surge occurred at about 8pm native time as hundreds of passengers waited to board a practice to the Maha Kumbh Hindu competition in Prayagraj in northern India.

Eyewitness Dharmender Singh stated there was “a huge stampede… a huge crowd. I have never seen such a crowd before”.

These killed included 10 girls and three kids, based on native media studies.

Delhi’s chief minister, identified mononymously as Atishi, stated on X that lots of the victims have been pilgrims en path to attend the Maha Kumbh competition.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and another federal ministers confirmed the incident in posts on X, though they didn’t disclose the quantity of people that died.

“Distressed by the stampede at New Delhi Railway Station. My thoughts are with all those who have lost their loved ones,” Mr Modi stated on X.
