Authorities imposter scams on the rise: Tricks to defend your self

Authorities imposter scams on the rise: Tricks to defend your self

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS)– Michigan Legal professional Basic Dana Nessel has reissued her shopper alert on authorities imposter scams. Scammers are posing as authorities officers through the use of pretend emails, calls, or texts.

These messages comprise hyperlinks or attachments and will request private info or demand cash. Nessel urges shoppers to not click on on these hyperlinks or obtain any attachments, as they could comprise viruses.

“When you receive these messages, silence is always the best policy,” Nessel stated in a information launch despatched to six Information. “If someone contacts you claiming to be from the government, protect yourself by reaching out to the agency directly through its official contact information.”

Individuals who have acquired pretend emails or texts ought to:

Blocking the textual content, e-mail, or name; 

Not clicking hyperlinks or opening attachments; 

Reporting the spam, and  

Deleting the textual content or e-mail from their machine.
