Avanti West Coast workers to strike on New Yr’s Eve

Avanti West Coast workers to strike on New Yr’s Eve

Avanti West Coast workers are set to strike after rejecting a deal geared toward resolving a dispute over relaxation day working.

Prepare managers will strike on New Yr’s Eve, 2 January and Sundays between 12 January and 25 Could, the Rail, Maritime and Transport union (RMT) stated.

An RMT spokesperson stated: “Our members have resoundingly rejected Avanti’s latest offers in two referendums and sustained strike action is now the only way to focus management’s minds on reaching a negotiated settlement with the union.”

As much as 400 members of the RMT are concerned within the dispute and 83% voted towards a advised deal, the union added.

Strikes deliberate for 22, 23, and 29 December had been suspended final week after a advised settlement was put to a referendum of RMT members.

The practice line operates six routes alongside the west of the UK, together with from London Euston to Manchester Piccadilly.

It additionally runs companies from the capital to Blackpool, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Birmingham, Holyhead, Wrexham and Liverpool.

Avanti stated the strikes will trigger “significant disruption” to passengers and it was taking a look at how they may influence companies.

An Avanti West Coast spokesperson stated: “We’re disappointed our train managers who are RMT members have voted to decline the very reasonable, revised offer made to them to resolve the rest day working dispute and avoid inconveniencing our customers.

“We stay open to working with the RMT to resolve the dispute.”
