Barclays tells prospects to contact meals banks as IT glitch disruption enters third day

Barclays tells prospects to contact meals banks as IT glitch disruption enters third day

Barclays has suggested prospects to contact meals banks after a serious IT glitch left some locked out of their accounts – with the disruption more likely to proceed at present.

The financial institution has warned that some prospects might even see an outdated stability, and funds made or obtained could not present following the preliminary outage on on-line and cell banking.

Prospects utilizing the app on Sunday morning had been greeted with a message headed: “Thank you for bearing with us”.

The message stated Barclays was working to right the consumer’s stability to make sure it exhibits all funds and the problem was “taking longer than we’d like to fix”.

The corporate’s standing examine web site listed the Barclays and Barclaycard apps, on-line banking and companies, playing cards, funds and transfers, branches and phone banking as areas affected by the IT glitch.

“Our ATMs are unaffected by this technical situation so prospects can withdraw money and use their playing cards to make funds.”

Barclays later added: “Some could proceed to see an outdated stability, and funds made or obtained could not present. Prospects mustn’t attempt to make the cost once more.

“We will ensure that no impacted customer is left out of pocket.

“We’re holding our name centres open for longer this weekend and we can be proactively contacting prospects who could also be susceptible.”

Bank’s response criticised as ‘triggering’

On social media site X, in response to one user who said her household “has no entry to cash”, the Barclays UK Help account asked: “Are there any pals or household who can provide assist?”

When she said she didn’t and criticised the reply as “so triggering”, the financial institution’s X account posted hyperlinks to the Trussell Belief, a charity that runs meals banks, and Residents Recommendation, which presents assist for a variety of issues.

And Karen Bannister, 52, from Wakefield, West Yorkshire, stated she had transferred all her cash into her Barclays account to pay her payments however the funds by no means arrived.

‘My four-month-old is out of milk powder’

One mom stated she was unable to purchase milk for her child as a result of glitch.

“My four-month-old is out of milk powder and screaming for a feed and I still haven’t been paid,” she stated in a put up on X.

“I’ve been in tears for hours.”

HMRC ‘working intently’ with financial institution

In a press release, HMRC stated it’s “working closely” with Barclays to minimise any affect on these submitting their self-assessments.

An HMRC spokesperson stated: “Our services are working as normal, so customers will still have been able to file their returns on time.

“Additionally, the problems is not going to lead to late cost penalties as they do not apply till 1 March.”
