Brenda Tracy says she will't encourage survivors to report

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Brenda Tracy, the girl who accused former Michigan State College soccer coach Mel Tucker of sexual harassment, says she “can’t” encourage different survivors of sexual misconduct and harassment to report their case to authorities.

“I can’t say that I would to another survivor and say, ‘Yeah, go report. It’s great,'” Tracy says. “My life has been destroyed. It’s hard for me to advocate to report.”

Tracy sat down with 6 Information Anchor Sheri Jones Friday afternoon. The interview occurred after an emotional look earlier than the Michigan State College Board of Trustees. Tracy, and her lawyer Karen Truszkowski, chastised the statewide elected board throughout a gathering Friday morning about how the physique dealt with Tracy’s sexual harassment grievance towards Mel Tucker, together with the leaking of her id and identify to the media earlier than the investigation was full.

“I think if you’re a board who says you support survivors and that you’re victim centered and those kinds of things; then I think what has happened to me is not congruent with who they say they are,” she says of actions and statements by varied trustees.

She says the “chaos” of the elected physique’s personal interactions performed a job in the way in which her grievance was publicly revealed and dealt with.

“I shouldn’t have gotten caught in the crossfire,” she says of the struggles between Trustees that performed out publicly within the wake of her allegations towards Tucker. “I mean I am a person who reported someone for sexual harassment. All these other things should not have happened.”

Tracy says since her identify was leaked to a reporter — and she or he subsequently labored with that reporter at USA As we speak — her life has been “decimated.”

She calls Tucker’s sexual harassment of her — which included a sexual cellphone name wherein Tucker admitted to masturbating — and retaliation towards her, “predatory.”

She factors out Tucker invited her to campus to “educate his players and staff about sexual violence and sexual misconduct,” after which harassed her.

“It’s almost unbelievable,” she says.

Requested if she had something to say to Tucker, she mentioned she had, “nothing.”

Authorized counsel for Tucker didn’t instantly reply to a request for remark.

Regardless of the fallout — the “criticism, ridicule, bullying” her report has prompted her, she says she wouldn’t change her determination to report.

“I would do it again,” she says.
